Funkstörung – Triple Media

funkstoerung

Funkstörung's 2004 round of releases is coming to its prolific finale. With the ambitious book/DVD project, "isolated. funkstörung triple media", which will be presented by !K7 and the Berlin design company "Die Gestalten" for the first time at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October, Michael Fakesch and Chris de Luca's latest venture is literally picture-book perfect.  "isolated. funkstörung triple media" is something like the fruits of them sowing infectious songs and invigorating communication.

Who would have thought that, taking electronic music as a starting point, "Disconnected" - Funkstörung's latest album - would bring about the best neighborly relationships with digital and visual art. This hasn't only resulted in a broadly based artistic format in terms of content, which offers a glimpse of the opinions of young talents and minds. It is also a topical showcase of the power of what has long been possible in terms of production techniques in numerous home studios across the whole world - and how professionally and creatively they are being employed.

"isolated. funkstörung triple media" started out as a visual remix competition last year on Funkstörung's homepage on the Internet (www.funkstorung.com/isolate ). The response was overwhelming - more than 800 designers submitted 1,200 images, 11 of which have already been used as inserts for the "Disconnected" cover artwork. The high quality of the work convinced "Die Gestalten" to get involved and create a cross-media presentation comprising print, music and video from the original "isolated remix contest". This is why a book including a DVD as a project document is now being released by the Berlin design specialists and !K7 Records.

More than 40 artists from all over the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, America and the whole of Europe, were involved in the production of the videos for the DVD of all the tracks of Funkstörung´s "Disconnected" album   and the two bonus tracks, which were recently released on the "Moon Addicted / Chopping Heads" EP. The most internationally well known include MK12 (Kansas City), Francois Chalet (Zurich), Pfadfinderei (Berlin), Pleix (Paris), Bowling Club (Paris), Jewboy Corporation (Tel Aviv) and Mösco from Change Agent (New York). Up and coming German outfits, like the Hamburg design group Giraffentoast and Berliner Maiko Gubler, are also represented by strong images.

"There are hardly any platforms for visual electronic art, apart from so-called Club Visuals, which are fortunately being treated as more and more artistically significant. We've always had a particular connection with this kind of artistic communication, so we set out from the start to make a DVD. That a book has now also been published makes it really hard to ignore this aspect of electronic art" says Michael Fakesch from Funkstörung.

The DVD presents 32 videos from different artists, including works using animation and digital trick techniques, short films and conventional music clips. The sound has been specially remastered and supports Dolby Surround. The illustrated book features more than 100 artworks, including photographs, montages, collages and designs from a total of 56 designers printed on 160 pages. For all music lovers, there is a directory in the data section of the DVD containing 8 remixes from "Disconnected" as MP3s, including Shadowhuntaz, Funckarma and other Funkstörung friends

Note: the sample you have been provided with has been exclusively developed for promotional purposes. The end product comes in extremely chic packaging and is considerably larger in its scope .
